Your Questions, Our Answers
We’re the salon your dog will always be excited to come back to! Our calm boutique environment and warm welcoming staff sets the tone for your dogs visit. Our first priority is to make sure your dog feels safe and has a positive experience from start to finish!
All of our certified groomers have completed the 600 hour hands on program at the nationally recognized school for pet grooming, Merryfield Academy. They continue their education by attending yearly trade shows and continuing education classes.
At our salon, every dog is treated with compassion and handled with the utmost care. We believe in humanity over vanity and always put the dogs best interest first. Any time during an appointment, if a dog is showing signs of fear, discomfort or uneasiness we immediately stop, access the situation and decide how to best proceed. We *never* use unnecessary force and refuse to use barbaric restraints with uncooperative dogs as a solution.
We carefully and strategically book appointment times so we can make sure your dog has little to no wait time from start to finish. All dogs receive individualized attention, ensuring a comfortable experience with a high-quality result!
Pricing is based on your dogs size, breed and coat type. We will never charge more than you’re quoted without first consulting you.
For a lot of new dog owners, it can be difficult to determine how often you should groom your puppy or adult dog. The truth is, the answer depends on a lot of factors such as, coat type, lifestyle, specific health conditions and personal preference. We are happy to help you come up with the perfect grooming schedule that will keep your dog looking and feeling its best!
Grooming can be very scary for little puppies so it’s important to start early so they can slowly get used to the process! We recommend starting with a bath, blow dry and nail trim after they receive their final round of shots.
Due to your pet’s love for you, the excited movements may create an unsafe environment for grooming. We have a lovely waiting area and can call you when the appointment is close to being finished!
Of course you can always speak to your groomer if you have questions or want to change their normal cut. If it’s your first visit clients are required to meet with the groomer for a brief consultation at the beginning of the appointment. This way there will be no surprises and you can feel confident your dog is in great hands!
Although our services include almost everything, we do charge extra for handling a matted coat. We will never tack on extra fees without discussing it with you first during the consultation. Mats can happen even to the most dedicated pet parents. Mats are painful, tugging and pulling at the skin. At The Grateful Dog, our motto is “Changing how your pet feels about going to the groomer.” For that reason, we will not subject our fur-clients to a long painful de-mat session. We typically recommend shaving down and sticking to a routine grooming schedule. We are happy to show you all the proper techniques, tools, and products to make it easier at home between grooms. Hair grows back, but the trust that your fur-friend will have in us as their caretakers may not if we cause them the discomfort of pulling at mats.
To pluck, or not to pluck? Many experts on the topic disagree on whether the procedure can cause ear infections, and how often it should be done. If this is a service you want it needs to first be discussed with your groomer during your consultation. This way your groomer can look in the ears with you to make sure it’s the right choice! We are also more than happy to trim or clip the hairs in the canal to keep the area hygienic and easy to clean if it’s needed.
For decades anal gland expression has been an expected service to be provided with your grooming session. When provided in a grooming facility the procedure is done externally. When done by a veterinarian or veterinary technician they do this procedure internally (as they are certified to do so). Over the years many studies have come forward supporting that expressing the anal glands externally can cause trauma, and not fully drain the glands, in some pets. After consulting with veterinarians in our professional network we have come to the conclusion to leave this procedure to be provided by veterinarians and veterinary technicians. They can safely provide this procedure, assess any potential issues, and get the glands 100% emptied. Your dog will thank us in the long run!
